For decades, NYC has not done enough for the New Yorkers whose wages, for years, has not kept up with the cost of housing. The unsanitory public spaces that this homeless population live in, along with the cramped environment of shelters and pre-existing, untreated medical health issues lead to a 61% higher death rate for the homeless than the general population.
